For the very first time, a Sikh man has been hired as an anchor by a news channel in Pakistan.
Harmeet Singh, who is born in Pakistan’s of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Chakesar city, has joined the Public News channel. The channel itself has shown a video of him on social media, under the caption, “Pakistan’s 1st Sikh News Anchor Harmeet Singh only on #PublicNews.”

A few days ago, Manmeet Kaur had got the chance to become the first female Sikh reporter in Pakistan.
Harmeet said that he had always been a keen observer of the Pakistani media industry, and wished to join it.
“I didn’t use any religion card to gain access in the media industry. I worked hard before I got any recognition,” Harmeet Singh claimed.
Media baron of Pakistan Yousaf Baig Mirza, head of the Public News channel, said Mr Singh was chosen as a newscaster for his personality and voice, which is a just perfect match for his job.
He got his masters in journalism from Federal Urdu University, Karachi, Pakistan. He joined in the telecast media as a reporter.
Harmeet Singh’s family is settled in Pakistan.
One person, while commenting on a tweet is amused that there is one Sikh in Pakistan cricket team and he is also from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that this newscaster is from Pakhtunkhwa too, as the other Sikh lady working for another news channel. She is also from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Shahid Masood, Mubashir Luqman, and Kashif Abbasi from ARY News, Sana Khan, from Punjab TV, Nida Sameer and Ashar Zaidi from Geo News are known as some of the big names in news presenting in Pakistan.
News presenter or a news reader is regarded an important job in any channel. It can make or mar the image of a news channel, so the selection is done keeping in mind the detailed ingredients of the person.
