After a second-quarter which witnessed a number of record-breaking releases, the US box office is not showing signs of slowing down.
The current month seems on the line of hits with “Ant-Man and the Wasp” eyes between $70 million and $80 million when it will be released in 4,100 theatres in a couple of days.
The movie is a superhero film, which makes use of the Marvel Comics characters. Produced by Marvel Studios for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, this movie is a sequel to 2015’s movie. The film is directed by Peyton Reed. It stars Rudd as Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Van Dyne, alongside Michael Peña, and Michael Douglas.
In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the pair is on a mission from Hank Pym, after an enemy named Ghost steals some of the technology being used by the protagonist.
Sequel to the movie started after the main film was screened. Ant-Man and the Wasp were later announced in October 2015. Rudd and Lilly returned in the film to act their roles. Reed was returned too from Ant-Man as a director.
The shooting schedule was completed from August to November 2017, at Georgia, as well as San Francisco, Savannah, Georgia, and Hawaii.
The sequel had its global launch in Hollywood on June 25, 2018. It is scheduled to be released on July 6, 2018, in the US in IMAX and 3D. The other blockbuster, “The First Purge” is relying on the hopes of a strong opening and a jump on the Marvel tentpole. It has just opened.
The fourth one in the “Purge” series would be earning around $25 million in weekdays, it is guessed.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp” is expected to start very nicely ahead of the original “Ant-Man’s” $50 million plus collection on box-office.
The follow-up sees Ant-Man collaborating with Lilly as the new Wasp to carry out a mission from her father. The cast comprises Hannah John-Kamen, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Pena, and Bobby Cannavale.
